Graphing Curiosity

I’ve been using Desmos not only as a graphing calculator to build tools and games, but also as an opportunity to interact with people who share my passions. The Desmos Discord server is a place where people with different levels of experience ask questions, share creative projects, and give and receive feedback. Through those interactions, I’ve found how much our community appreciates learning with others.  One of the things I admire most about the Desmos community is that it’s supportive and inclusive. When answering questions or giving feedback on projects, we encourage exploration rather than prescription. Collaboration is central to our culture, as many of the most impressive Desmos projects I’ve seen were built by team working together.

Although I’ve learned many interesting concepts about mathematics and computer science from the Desmos community, one of the most important things I’ve learned is how to be supportive of others’ passions. I believe curiosity thrives when people feel safe to explore, make mistakes, and ask questions. By engaging with others in a thoughtful and encouraging way, I’ve practiced contributing to a diverse, intellectual, and creative community.
